The villages of North and South Lopham have a tradition of high quality linen making dating back 300 years and it's linen was supplied to Queen Victoria at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.  South Lopham is centrally placed for exploring East Anglia and the following offers just a glimpse of what is on offer, there is much more for you to discover.

  • Using footpaths you can walk, or in the car drive to Redgrave & Lopham Fen.  Source of the Waveney and Little Ouse rivers and home to the Raft spider.  Plenty of walking routes and wildlife spotting opportunities

  • Bressingham Steam Museum & Gardens - train rides, gardens to wander around and "Dads Army" exhibition

  • Diss market town (4 miles) with a Tourist Information office open 6 days a week & local museum

  • Banham Zoo - over 1000 animals in 35 acres of parkland.  Big cats, giraffes, small primates, often a number of new born or young animals.  Next door to the Zoo large Sunday boot fair

  • St George's Distillery, the only whisky distillery in England

  • Only 7 miles away Snetterton Race Circuit, super bikes, touring cars and classic sports car championships all taking place this year, plus many other events

  • Thornham Walks offers 12 miles of way marked walks including a route that is a surfaced path and suitable for push chairs and wheelchairs

When it comes to exploring South Norfolk and North Suffolk our location makes us an ideal base: Norwich (30 miles), Thetford (10 miles) and Bury St Edmunds (17 miles).

Cycling in the forest19 miles to Thetford Forest High Lodge visitors centre has extensive walking and cycle rides (cycle hire available locally in Diss and at High Lodge) and Go Ape for over 10s to climb and swing through the trees.  There is also walking and cycling opportunities at Brandon Country Park a little further (24 miles) but still part of Thetford Forest with free car parking.

For more serious walkers, the prehistoric Peddars Way starts at nearby Plenty of walking nearbyKnettishall Heath Country Park and runs all the way to the North Norfolk coast.

For a day by the sea, Southwold (35 miles), Great Yarmouth (45 miles) and Lowestoft (39 miles) are all within easy reach, as are the Norfolk Broads.
